Influences
a new kind of music with its genesis in industrial music that twists to become a true hybrid genre as it progresses through searing rock to melodic, ethereal pop.

Jakalope is a Canadian industrial rock group. They are named for a fictional animal (Jack rabbit-Antelope), although the animal's name is more commonly spelled jackalope. The band was formed in 2003 by noted Canadian industrial musician/producer Dave Ogilvie. The core members of the band include Anthony Valcic, Katie Biever, Don Harrison, Don Binns and Don Short. (Harrison, Binns and Short, nicknamed “The Three Dons”, are all former members of the bands Sons of Freedom and 2preciious.)

The band also collaborated with a number of guest musicians, including Trent Reznor, Kat Bjelland and members of Sloan, Monster Magnet and Malhavoc.

Their debut album, It Dreams, was released in 2004, and spawned the hit single “Pretty Life”. The cover art for this album received the Juno Award for Best CD/DVD Artwork Design of the Year in 2005, and was designed by artist Vincent Marcone.

Orange Records confirmed in early October 2005 that Jakalope would return to the studio in late October to record their second album, which came out in 2006 as scheduled, entitled Born 4. “Digging Deep” was released as a single for the album, although it failed to capture the same level of attention as It Dreams.

Jakalope performed and recorded the theme song for Degrassi: The Next Generation’s seasons four and five opening sequence.

In October of 2007 it was revealed that Jakalope left the Orange Record Label. As well, in late 2007 it was revealed that Katie B. had left the group to pursue a solo career.
By December of 2007 Chrystal Leigh was revealed to be the new singer of the Canadian music group.

Jakalope caught a lot of people off-guard when producer Dave Ogilvie rolled out his industrial pop hybrid back in 2004. Although the producer is a soft-spoken gentleman and father in real life, his work nonetheless precedes him, instilling a subtle sense of trepidation in anyone who's perused a CV that includes Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, and Marilyn Manson among others...
